Blu Martínez belongs to the founding lineage of her hometown Moyuta, Jutiapa.
Her maternal ancestors came from Hungary and were Gypsies in search of discovering new lands, crossing the Pacific Ocean and landing on the southeastern coasts of Guatemala. From there come Blu’s magical gifts, such as reading tarot cards, singing and dancing freely, and some other others. mystery music lol
These Gypsies blended in with the Catholic religion and changed their names to appear as if they were from Spain to avoid trouble with the Crown. However, among family members and in their private lives, they continued practicing their spiritual beliefs and speaking their original language, Hungarian.
Similarly, on her father’s side, her lineage comes from Spanish pirates who, upon reaching land, became allies of the King of Spain and worked as swordsmen for the King’s mounted police, responsible for enforcing justice on those who did not submit to the new orders of the conquistadors in the area. This is why Blu loves justice and is very brave and resilient in the face of the challenges she has encountered in her life.
Although the "pirate side" may seem somewhat evil or harmful, on the contrary, it is what has given Blu so much strength and determination to achieve her goals, as well as her sense of humor, which comes from that side, because anyone could compare her to Jack Sparrow (except that she doesn't drink as much alcohol) haha.
This information comes directly from Blu’s father, who passed away quite old and was proud of the oral tradition of his lineage. Also, there are records in several history books of Moyuta and Jutiapa, where many of the surnames that still populate the area today are mentioned.
Over five generations since the founding of her hometown, Blu’s family has experienced a mix of Chinese, Black, and Indigenous races, so she considers herself mestiza (of mixed race), like most chapines (Guatemalans)
of the East side and Central part of the country. Her grandmother on her mother's side, who passed at almost 101 years old, told her stories of how her grandparents were the ones responsible for clearing the paths (with machetes) to the City, to transport coffee, fish, poultry, regional fruits, and eggs, which was their main production as they were mostly engaged in trade.
Her grandmother (RIP) was the first teacher, treasurer, restaurant owner, and grocer in Moyuta, leaving behind a legacy that persists to this day—a name loved by many—and from whom Blu inherited her gift for teaching. Even though she isn’t formally a teacher, she has worked in that profession at all educational levels, teaching English, Art, and Artistic Expression (of course).
